Information Collection And Use

We collect several different types of information for various purposes to provide and improve our Service to you.

Our collection, use, and disclosure of Student Data are governed by our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use and also by the provision of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and applicable state laws that relate to the collection of Student Data. We do not knowingly collect, maintain or use personal data from children under the age of 13, unless in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If we discover that we have unknowingly collected such information we will take all reasonable steps to promptly delete such information in our possession as soon as possible. Codecraft Works shall not use Student Data for any purposes other than those authorized pursuant to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

What information does Codecraft Works collect from Students?

User Name (e.g codingiscool)	If Required by Teacher/School Admin on account creation	To identify the student in the Teacher’s Classroom. We strongly advise students never to provide any personal information in their usernames.
Birth Year	If Required by Teacher/School Admin on account creation	To ensure students under age 13 don’t have access to age-restricted features within Codecraft. Student progress report and to offer age appropriate learning experience.
One way hash of student email address	Parent email address is required if student under 13 register, unless student is using service as part of a school course or activity and the school has already received permission. Teacher/School Admin can add student email address in the registration process.	Student email address is hashed to protect privacy. We do not send direct email to student email address.
Parent/Guardian email address	Provided by parent to create login for student.	Parent email address is required if the student is under 13.
Login time, IP address, and other technical data	Collected as student progress through the course.	To evaluate the course adaptiveness we collect data like quiz, number of tries to solve a problem.
Gender	Optional	Only used in data statistical research to determine the percentage of students responding to different computer science challenges. Codecraft Works goal is to reduce the gender gap in computer science.

Student provided responses to surveys.	Collected if Student chooses to fill out survey offered within codecraft courses .	To understand the effectiveness of program we may ask for responses from Students. The surveys are shared as anonymous to teacher/school admin to understand their classroom learning experience.
Student provided group chat or discussions	Collected if Student chooses to participate in the group discussions.	To understand the effectiveness of the program, support frequently asked questions and provide appropriate help.

What information does Codecraft Works collect from Teacher/School Admin?

Email Address	Email address is required on account creation	To send emails to teacher with updates about their classroom, student progress, new courses is available, etc. Teacher can unsubscribe from the updates.

Student Classroom data	Optional collected only when teacher chooses to fill out survey	Codecraft may send surveys to evaluate and improve the program. All survey data are de-identified to protect privacy.
Comment feedback provided to student	Teacher can give feedback or comments to their student	Teacher Account can access all comments in their account to review the student performance.

Codecraft may also survey to provide us with optional demographic information (such as gender, age, ethnicity), to better understand our User base.

Students participating in a Teacher/Instructor supervised virtual classroom can send text based messages to their respective Teacher/Instructor. Message content will be visible to the virtual classroom teacher and are not accessed by Codecraft for any purpose other than educational purposes. All messages will be deleted after 2 hours of class inactivity or manually reset by the Teacher/Instructor.

Information We Do NOT Collect

Codecraft Works does not directly collect or store payment instruments. Purchases from the Codecraft Works are processed via Stripe. Contact Stripe ⎋ with questions about information collected and stored on the Stripe severs.

Exceptions case when we collect email address

When a User contacts us via our customer support, we will store and use their email address in order to respond to them.

Limited Access to Codecraft Employees and Authorized Third Party

Codecraft Work’s officers, directors, employees, contractors must have appropriate reason (related to programming education, scholarship support, school group administration) to access Personal Information you provide to Codecraft Works, for example to assist in supporting a local school group, programming workshop. Codecraft Works will require officers, directors, employees, contractors to comply with this Privacy Policy.

Data Retention Policy

Codecraft Works will not store the student email address. Only one way hash version will be stored. Codecraft will receive a student email address which will be used to send them a password reset link. 360 days of inactive Codecraft account status the personal information will be deleted. If we do not receive parental consent within a reasonable time, we will delete the parent contact information and any other information collected from the child in connection with that activity.

Student Academic Data from School Districts

School district agreement for evaluation of effectiveness of the Codecraft Works Program.

To measure codecraft programs, evaluation can be done in selected partner school district. The data from the School Districts must be de-identified respecting compliance with all applicable Federal and local laws.

We share limited student data with teacher and limited Teacher information with the Student. If a Student belongs to a Teacher’s classroom, we will share Student account information, course progress, and standalone projects with that Teacher so the Teacher can help manage the Student’s progress. The Student will also see limited information about their Teacher including their Teacher’s display name and classroom information.

Third Party Authentication Services

When Users sign up into Codecraft platform,

Codecraft permits you to register an account for the Services through third party social networking services, such as Google (“Authentication Service”). By registering for the Services using an Authentication Service, you agree that Codecraft may access your account information from the Authentication Service. You are solely responsible for your interactions with the Authentication Service.

If Teacher/Educator/School Administrator creates an account in Codecraft through an Authentication service such as Google Accounts, Microsoft Accounts, you give Codecraft Works permission to store and use information already associated with your Authentication Service.

Children Under Age 13

Codecraft courses are designed to be used by Users of all ages, including children under the age of 13 with the involvement of and pre-authorization by their school, teacher, parent or legal guardian.To use features that involve uploading custom media files, we obtain prior consent from the Student’s teacher, authorized school representative, or, in some cases, the parent or legal guardian.

If Codecraft has inadvertently collected Personal Information or Persistent Identifiers from children under the age of 13 without prior parental or teacher consent appropriate steps will be taken to delete this information. Teacher, parent or legal guardian of a Student can ask us via email to hello@codecraftworks.com to deactivate the Student’s account, delete any hashed email address, collected Personal Identifiable Information. We may verify your identity and your relationship with the Student.

Data Security

We employ data security tools to protect Personal Information. Unfortunately, even with these measures, we cannot guarantee the security of PI. By using our Website, you acknowledge and agree that we make no such guarantee, and that you use our Website at your own risk. To access information on our Website, you will need an Internet browser that supports the use of a technology known as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. This is industry-standard encryption technology that helps us ensure the authenticity of your online sessions and secure data being transmitted through the use of the public Internet.

If there is any security breach we will attempt to notify you electronically so that you can take appropriate steps.

The Services may contain links to other sites. We are not responsible for the privacy policies on other sites.

Usage Data

We may also collect information regarding how the Service is accessed and used (“Usage Data”). This Usage Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data. To assess the learning platform technical information from browser or device, standard log files, web beacons, or pixel tags. IP address, the type of browser, ISP, web pages, date and login time, users visit the website will be gathered to provide a personalized learning and high quality experience. This information assists us in understanding how our users are using our website.

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track the activity on our Service and hold certain information.
